Welcome to another edition of beauty subscription corner, where we provide a quick review of the products in each box and let you know what our personal favorite products are. We subscribe to these boxes as a way to try products we wouldn’t have ordinarily tried or even considered. It is also a fun and exciting way to discover new brands and products, plus who doesn’t love getting beauty products every month? Each box contains at least five sample size items, perfectly packaged and delivered right to your doorstep monthly.
We are currently subscribed to the following boxes: Birch, Ipsy, Wal-Mart**, Target, and Sephora.
BirchBox – $10 – March’s box had me at the end of my rope with BirchBox and I had every intention of canceling my subscription once I reviewed the products and cashed in my points, somehow all that didn’t take place before the bill date for April’s box and hence we are here today. I think someone tipped them off about my plans to cancel and as a result, they sent me a pretty decent line up of products for April.

Marcella 3 in 1 Micellar Solution – Micellar water is a big hit in the beauty community, with a lot of big name brands producing their own version of this product. So far I have tried one other brand, and I was quite underwhelmed with the result, this product, on the other hand, has been absolutely great. My first time trying this product happened to be on a night where I was extremely absolutely exhausted after a long day, I fell asleep with my makeup on woke up at about 1:30 am and was way too lazy to do a full wash routine. I removed my excess make with a makeup wipe, and then used a cotton pad with this solution to cleanse my face after. I was amazed by the results, it got rid of any residual makeup left behind by the wipes, leaving my face feeling cleaned, refused and moisturized.
derma e® Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask – This brand has certainly solidified its place in the skin care world with their excellent line-up of products for every skin issue or concern. This product takes advantage of the charcoal trend and adding another element to create this 2 in 1 mask. The natural clay and charcoal lift out dirt and oils that can clog pores and cause breakouts and blackheads, it’s also infused with apricot seeds that exfoliate away dead skin. The mask dries fairly quickly compared to some of the other masks I have used with the same clay like formula. So far, I’m loving the end results of this product, my pores feel tighter, and my skin felt clean, smooth and bright.
Ipsy – $10 – The theme of this month’s bag is Dreamers, designed to allow us to celebrate every side of beautiful. I was a tad bit confused when I saw the design of the bag as it didn’t compliment the glammed up beauty that was featured on the banner of the website and the card insert sent out with the bag. When I saw the bag I struggled to make the connection between the two, and I wasn’t too excited about the design either. Now, after seeing the bag in person I did like it, I was still left struggling to make the connection with the rest of the theme, though.

- Luxie Beauty Dreamcatcher Tapered Highlighter Brush 522
- Pur~lisse Blue Lotus + White Tea Sheet Mask & Blue Lotus + Seaweed Sheet Mask
Luxie Beauty Dreamcatcher Tapered Highlighter Brush 522 – By now you all know my feelings towards receiving brushes in my Ipsy bag, so you know I was over the moon when I found out this beauty was on its way to my door. This is my second Luxie brush from Ipsy, and I’m not disappointed. Luxie’s brushes are made of a very soft synthetic fiber, that allows for seamless application. I use this brush to apply highlighting powder, but it is not limited to that purpose, it can be used to contour as well as blend and set under-eye concealer. What makes this product great is the fact that it’s 100% vegan, 100% cruelty-free, 100% paraben-free and it’s also coated with an antibacterial solution to help repel dirt and bacteria.
Target – $7 – This box looked a lot better online than it did when I got it, I think my excitement about the Target Beauty Box has died and I’m now back to my senses and seeing it for what it really is, now I don’t know what that is yet but I’m determined to find out.

- Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport Ultra Light with SPF 30+ Sunscreen Lotion

- Laneige Water Bank Soothing Gel Mask
Laneige Water Bank Soothing Gel Mask – I am really feeling this sheet mask trend, it’s a great way to rehydrate your face as these products are designed to have moisture penetrate deep into the skin. While this wasn’t my favorite of the other masks that I have tried I did like it, I enjoyed the cool soothing feeling as I waited for my skin to absorb all that moisture. Now unlike the other mask this one instructed that you use a toner after you remove the mask, toners can sometimes be drying, but my skin still felt packed with moisture after. The only thing I didn’t like about this mask was the texture and application, the other masks I have tried felt more like tissue while this one felt more like plastic, the other masks were also whole while this one was in two pieces which made application difficult. I had to lay down the whole time so the mask wouldn’t fall off my face.
Wal-Mart – So, after I received my last Wal-Mart box I found out that you now had the option to sign up for two boxes. Wal-Mart has a classic box and a Trendsetter, apparently if you are over thirty-five you would receive a Classic box and under thirty-five you would receive a Trendsetter. Based on the info provided when I signed up I was set to receive the trendsetter box for spring, so I went ahead and signed up for the Classic as well, after all, it’s only $5. Fast forward and my boxes are here and I’m a little confused, based on images I’ve seen of other people displaying their boxes I quickly noticed that the boxes are unequal. It almost seemed like products were just heaped up and thrown in the boxes and whatever landed, shipped. I’m not saying we all have to receive the same product, but same quantity is more than fair, why should one person receive seven items while another only gets five. It also seemed like the products are just scattered between the two boxes as it was hard to differentiate between the two, I noticed one person had the Neutrogena Lip Gloss in their Trendsetter box but mine was in the Classic. Just to make it easy they should have the Trendsetter boxes have the same product and the Classic box have the same products, with all the products carefully curated to the age range of that box.

Colgate Optic White Express White Toothpaste – I think the fact that this ended up on the list had a lot to do with the fact that I was running low on toothpaste and this saved me a trip to the store, but really though I am partial to Colgate.
Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser – This is a really gently scrub that does a good job of getting my face and pores clean. It has a clean refreshing scent that is sure to refresh your senses after a long day. The exfoliating agent is not abrasive like baking soda can be so it’s great for those with sensitive skin who want to experience the benefit of baking soda.
Classic (over 35 – $5)
- Colgate Optic White
- Dove Dry Oil Body Wash
- Banana Boat Sun Comfort
- Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Restorative Night Cream
- Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer

Dove Dry Oil Body Wash – Shower gels are really growing on me I’ll admit I, and this one is right there in the handful of few. I have always been partial to dove’s bar soap so I’m not surprised that I took a like to this product. Just like the bar soap this wash has load of moisture and my skin loves it, I didn’t even have to lotion after getting out the shower.
Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer – Previously reviewed in January check it out here.
Colgate Optic White – I think this also goes back to the fact that I didn’t have to make a trip to the store for toothpaste. I’m a fan of Colgate and it will always be one of my top favorite brands, however, I did use this product until all the content was gone and I didn’t see any visible results.
