Father’s Day is a week out and hopefully you have amazing days planned out for the special man in your life! Since I work in the health field and I’m an aspiring nurse – fingers crossed – I wanted to focus on men who worked in the health industry, be it doctors, nurses, EMT’s Techs, hospital transporters, cooks, cleaner, whatever their roles are in a hospital, clinic, or any other health facilities, I am sure they can benefit from one of the gift listed below. Here are 5 father’s day gift ideas for dads in the health industry.
I will be the first to admit, I never knew how important good shoes were until I worked my first 12 hours shift at the hospital. When I got home that night, my feet = fired and my back was screaming!!!!! While sneakers are definitely a good option, getting some good shoes like Danskos, provides the support you need for your feet and back while standing for over 10-12 hours. Fathers who work on their feet for long periods of time would definitely appreciate this.
A good quality stethoscope
This is for fathers who are nurses, doctors or who use stethoscopes. There are tons of stethoscopes out on the market today, however, anyone who uses will tell you, Littman’s are the best!! In my hospital, Littman’s are all I see. They can be a bit pricey, I’ve seen some in the $300 price range, but, they are worth it!! Also, get them monogramed if you can spare the extra change, because, Littman’s grow legs!!!
If I could get a massage every night/morning after my shift, I would be forever grateful… hint, hint to whomever want to get me a spa day. I asked a few dads what they would want for father’s day, and quite a few of them mentioned a massage or spa day after 12 hour days or 18 hour surgeries. Plan a spa day for the special dad in your life, it will make his day.
Find out when your dad has his vacation scheduled for the year and plan a getaway for him or make it a family trip. Anything away from the health setting is a vacation, as far as I am concerned. Somewhere where he can get away and re-group for a while. That means no scalpels, no stethoscopes, no nothing health related. Unplug, have fun.
Yes, you are reading correctly, I have grooming bag written up there. At times people who work in the health field have to work a double shift or there’s a natural disaster and they aren’t able to go home. A grooming bag will come in handy for a man who is caught up in a situation like this. They will have a grooming bag on hand in their locker with all the essentials for an overnight or a three day stay at the hospital.
I am sure that there are tons of other gift ideas out there for fathers who work in a health related field. These were the 5 top answers I got from the men I harassed at my job (that was a joke – kinda).
What are you getting your father for father’s day?
Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there!!!
